Prime Minister Narendra Modi released the commemorative Rs 100 coin on 24 December 2018 in the memory of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee.

BJP president Amit Shah, senior BJP leader LK Advani, Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan, minister of state for culture Mahesh Sharma and finance minister Arun Jaitley were present at the occasion.

The coin was released just a day ahead of late Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s birthday anniversary. His birthday falls on 25 December and is celebrated as “Good Governance Day” by the BJP. He was awarded Bharat Ratna in 2014.

Vajpayee passed away on 16 August 2018 at the (AIIMS) All India Institute of Medical Science in Delhi as he was suffering from a prolonged illness. He was 93.

Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ji built the Jana Sangh but, when the time came to rescue the democracy, he and others went to Janata Party. He left the Janata Party and formed the BJP when the choice was between remaining in power or comprising on ideology.

He said, “Power is oxygen for some people. And they can’t leave without it”. Vajpayee spent a long part of his career in the opposition benches for hiking issues of national interest.

“The late and former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee never got agree on the ideological beliefs of the political party”, Prime Minister Modi said.

Additionally, the PM said, “As a speaker, Vajpayee was exceptional”. When Vajpayee spoke, the nation spoke and when he spoke, the nation listened.

The mind doesn’t want to believe that Vajpayee is no longer alive. As he was away from public glare for almost nearly a decade due to ill health, the way people treated him a farewell on his demise and showed the mark he had created in minds of the people.

The veteran leader who led the National Democratic Alliance government from 1998-2004 and was the first person from the BJP to have become India’s Prime Minister. Atal Bihari Vajpayee served as Prime Minister thrice – briefly in 1996 and then two terms between 1998 and 2004.
