India-China border dispute

Are we heading to another India-China war?

News

The buildup troops along the India-China Border are causing serious tensions between the two nuclear powers. Both countries also restricted their journalists from entering the disputed areas. The ongoing Coronavirus pandemic situation is making it tougher because of the difficulties of gathering accurate information.

On May 5 and May 9, India and China got indulged in hand to hand skirmishes. In these clashes, more than 100 soldiers injured. The Indian media report that Chinese army personnel comprising thousands of soldiers have crossed into the Indian Territory and set up tents and trenches near the Himalayas.

In response, India’s army has posted reinforcements that sparked fear of war between both countries. According to the “The Economist” newspaper; New Delhi and Beijing activated a high- level diplomatic channel. China’s ambassador to India, Sun Weidong issued a statement that we should not overshadow our relationships because of our differences.

Chances of war?

Political experts say that chances of war between India and China are unlikely because of the nature of disputes and lack of ideological fundamentalisms. For example; China and the USA where geopolitical competition is a big international issue; the India-China dispute has no such ideology.

Both countries’ border problems are different from Kashmir, Tibet, and Taiwan’s notorious border disputes. This is the main reason that both parties are very cautious about each other‘s maneuvers. The Chinese Community Party does not perceive as the antithetical to India’s democratic role.

If China starts a war with India then its ability to meet security challenges in the South-China Sea would be in danger and China considers the USA, its primary security competitor. Amid Coronavirus pandemic, No country will take any risk of using their military forces. India and China must navigate the territory issue carefully as both will be at loss after a war.
