CAA bill was passed on 11th December, 2019 and created many controversies across the country. Many also got confused among CAA & NRC issues. There are also false rumors are spreading which causing chaos in the public. First, you need to know some brief details of both CAA and NRC bills.
Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA)
This amendment includes that those people who entered in India from Pakistan, Afghanistan and Bangladesh can get citizenship if they came before 2014, after that immigrants of religions Sikh, Hindu, Parsi excluding Muslims can come to India and can apply for citizenship. The decision of excluding Muslims caused uproar in India. Even, many big celebrities raised their voices against CAA bill. Left Party CPI member Kanhaiya Kumar staged protests and recently in JNU, many students hold a rally and some celebrities also went there. Delhi police’s action also made big headlines across the country.
NRC (National Register of Citizens)
This register contains the information of all Indian citizens. It was started in ethnically diverse state Assam. Recently, BJP announced that they will implement this NRC all over the country. It is not yet clarified that when this NRC be started but opposition used a statement that NRC is linked to the CAA and this is a strategic move taken by the government.
